With 53 miles of shoreline and spectacular views of Mt. Rainier, the Olympics and Cascades, this island and village of Bainbridge is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Washington State. It has an artsy town center just a few minutes from the ferry with eclectic shops and a culinary hub specializing in local foods from the farm and sea. After touring the village, we took the ferry to Seattle and enjoyed a second visit to Pikes Place Market. Lunch at the Lowell's bar was a special experience.
Just across the water in Lake Washington is Xanadu 2.0, Bill and Linda Gates famous 66,000-square-foot mansion. The incredible technology- laden home is noted for its design and is named after the title character's estate in Citizen Kane.
