We spent Halloween at OZ in GA. Had a great time despite the weather turning wet Saturday night. There were many tricks and treats :) !
We stayed in Marietta, GA, a large suburb of Atlanta and new home to Dehn and Fancey Larson. The iconic Marietta Diner was just down the road and we had several great meals there. We visited the Ponce City Market and had a great lunch at H&F. Club FLEX was right downtown and a great place to 'work out' and relax. We also had a fantastic meal that Mike made for Dehn, Fancey and her parents, Jodi & Glenn, at their new home. Mi
We purposefully routed our trip to include Asheville after Uncle Mike got a call and request to plan a very important occasion. Dr. Anna Larson and Meg Ohno Flute Haman's wedding in Asheville, NC, Labor Day weekend next year. We allowed ourselves a full week to select a location, order tents & equipment, caterers, DJ's, cake bakers, build a website, etc. And how do we keep it from going over budget? Plans are now settled and it will be a very special event for two loving, wonderful gals! While there we visited with our good friend Lyn McFarland, had dinner with Fancy & Dehn who were visiting from Atlanta, and did some touring of a wonderful eclectic mountain town with so much to see and do.
We reprised our visit to this wonderful county park to visit Mike's college friend Gail and her husband Carey. Gail is retiring in December after many years as the President of the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce. Mike is feeling better and joined them for dinner, while Ron is now suffering from a cold and cough, his first since we started our epic adventure. We are not blaming our colds on the flu shots.... but WTF!?
Our base camp in Brunswick, MD., along the Potomac, gave us access to visit family and friends. The Tawney Family live nearby in Purcellville, VA. Karl Ruiz lives in Arlington, VA. Mike made a quick trip Friday to visit and have lunch with Karl. Saturday we visited with Scarlet & Harrison along with their Mom Erica & Harold Tawney. Naturally we arrived bearing gifts! Those two kids are just the cutest and happiest redheads ever! We got our "senior" flu shots last week and after 16 months on the road Mike was down with a bad cold. Mike had to cancel our planned visit with Vicki and Guy Nichols which we were so looking forward to. Ron did some touring of the Brunswick area and Harpers Ferry, WV.
On our way to Maryland/Northern Virginia we stopped to visit and have lunch with Debonny & Lee Shoaf in Shippensburg, PA. which was near their home in Newville, PA, Debbie and Mike grew up together in Uniontown, PA, and spent their freshman year together at Ohio University. It was great to see them and get caught up. We're sorry it was such a "flash visit" as Lee called it, but we'll get together again soon.
