Our basecamp at Portland Fairview RV was located 8 miles east of downtown Portland in the town of Fairview along the Columbia River surrounded by the towns of Gresham and Troutdale. Troutdale is the "Gateway to the Gorge" and entrance to National Scenic Area. The Columbia River Gorge (up to 4000' deep) stretches for more than 80 miles as the Columbia River winds westward through the Cascade range. The majestic Mt. Hood stands at 11,245' and is the highest point in Oregon, It is one of three dormant volcanoes in this region, with Mt. Adams (12,276') and Mt. St. Helens (8,366') across the river in Washington. One day we played in the 15' snow pack at Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood. Another day we explored the scenic Columbia River Gorge and its falls. Other days we just explored the area and ate more great food.

Lovely area, for sure, and glad you had a chance to visit. It seemed to clean--all the snow, trees, river. Nice pleasant folks, too, I think you'll agree. Much slower-paced than much of the rest of the country. You must have passed by Rooster Rock on the way to Mt. Hood, but it was likely a bit cold for nude sunbathing.
