Poulsbo is often called "Little Norway on the Fjord." Settled by Norwegian fisherman and loggers, Poulsbo today still has many hints of its Scandinavian past. Poulsbo was established in 1886 as a fishing and boatbuilding village on what is now known as Liberty Bay. The historic downtown district on the waterfront features shops, restaurants, services and the area's finest marine port with ample guest moorage. Visit their website at www.poulsbo.com. Some pics of our base camp at Eagle tree. Notice the Eagle carved on top of the tree stump.
Mike's a happy camper since just up the road about a mile toward Agate Pass is the Suquamish Clearwater Casino on the water right by the bridge to Bainbridge Island.
Across the Agate Pass Bridge is Bainbridge Island where the Washington State Ferry System connection to Seattle is located. The crossing takes 35 minutes and is quite scenic as you approach downtown Seattle.
With 53 miles of shoreline and spectacular views of Mt. Rainier, the Olympics and Cascades, this island and village of Bainbridge is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Washington State. It has an artsy town center just a few minutes from the ferry with eclectic shops and a culinary hub specializing in local foods from the farm and sea. After touring the village, we took the ferry to Seattle and enjoyed a second visit to Pikes Place Market. Lunch at the Lowell's bar was a special experience.

Just down the road from our base camp was an awesome food emporium called Central Market. It has an amazing selection of prepared foods and groceries. We went here often and ate some great local delicacies.
And then there is Sluys Bakery downtown on Front St. Wow is all one can say of their baked gooey goods and world famous breads! Check out their story at www.sluyspoulsbobakery.com.
Before leaving the area we took the Jeep on the Ferry to the mainland to visit Carolyn and Tom Collins. They are Ron's elementary and high school friends he recently saw at their 50th Class Reunion in October. We had a great dinner (King Salmon) and lively conversation at their wonderful home in Bellevue. They built a custom home on the lake with docks and all the toys, including a 42' sailboat. That's 'Ollie' their Golden Retriever.
Just across the water in Lake Washington is Xanadu 2.0, Bill and Linda Gates famous 66,000-square-foot mansion. The incredible technology- laden home is noted for its design and is named after the title character's estate in Citizen Kane.
